AUGUST 2008: SCHOOL ATTENDANCE & ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITYnchsaa.gif

Attention Students and Parents,

School attendance is important and required by North Carolina State Law. Due to this, a limited number of absence waivers will be granted during the 2008-2009 school year. The only waivers that will be granted (as determined by the Principal) will be absences due to medical reasons.

If a student is absent due to medical reasons, documentation must be submitted to the front office and a waiver requested at the time of the student return. However, if there are enough days left in the semester to allow the student make up the time with the teacher, a waiver will not be granted. To reiterate, absence waivers will only be granted upon a student's return if the absence was a result of a medical condition and student has medical documentation.

Attendance is extremely important to a student's success. Eight or more absences may result in the student not receiving credit for the course. Also, a student athlete that is absent 13 days during a semester, will not be eligible to participate in any Northern Vance High School or North Carolina High School Athletic Association sponsored events. If a student is participating in athletics and misses 13 days, the student will become ineligible to finish the season. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has increased their monitoring of student athletes across North Carolina. Our compliance with North Carolina State Law, Vance County Schools policies, and the policies of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association is required and necessary. The school will not jeopardize student's future or participation in the athletics sponsored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
